IT IS POSSIBLE THAT THE BELL SECURING SCREWS HAVE BECOME LOOSE, YOU CAN SEE THEM ON THE BASE AS SHOWN BELOW.

IF YOU ARE ABLE TO TIGHTEN THEM UP THEY MUST HAVE COME LOOSE AND THAT COULD HAVE SORTED THE PROBLEM.

FAILING THAT YOU MAY HAVE TO OPEN UP THE TELEPHONE.  IT IS QUITE SIMPLE.

LOOSEN THE SCREW ON THE REAR SHOWN BELOW:-

IT ISN’T MEANT TO COME OUT, IT SHOULD BE RETAINED BY A NUT AND A SPRING.  IT IS POSSIBLE THE NUT AND THE SPRING NO LONGER EXIST AS THEY DO SOMETIMES GET LOST.

WHEN YOU HAVE LOOSENED THE SCREW YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO HINGE THE PHONE COVER FORWARDS.

ONCE INSIDE IT IS EASIER TO GET AT THE BELL BY REMOVING THE DIAL, WHICH IS ACHIEVED BY LOOSENING THE SCREW SHOWN.

NOW YOU CAN SEE THE BELL GONGS AND THE CLAPPER THAT VIBRATES BETWEEN THEM.

IT IS POSSIBLE THAT SOMETHING MAY BE IN THE WAY OF THE CLAPPER AND YOU MAY BE ABLE TO SEE IT AT THIS POINT.

ALTERNATIVELY THE BELL CLAPPER MAY HAVE GOT BENT DOWN SO THAT IT ISN’T ABLE TO STRIKE THE BELLS ALL OF THE TIME.  THE BELL CLAPPER SHOULD ROUGHLY BE IN THE POSITION SHOWN.

IF YOU HAVEN’T SEEN A PROBLEM THEN I MUST ASSUME THAT THE BELLS NEED ADJUSTING.

THE BELL GONGS ARE NOT PERFECTLY CIRCULAR, THEY ARE ELIPTICAL SO THAT IF THEY ARE LOOSENED OFF VERY SLIGHTLY THEY CAN EACH BE ROTATED.  IF YOU DO THAT YOU WILL SEE THAT THE GAP BETWEEN THE BELLS INCREASES OR DECREASES.  BY DOING THAT YOU CAN ADJUST THE BELL SOUND.

IF YOU HOLD THE SWITCHOOKS DOWN YOU CAN TEST THE BELLS BY SETTING UP AN INCOMING CALL. WHEN IT IS PERFECT TIGHTEN THE BELL FIXING SCREWS BEING SURE TO HOLD THE BELL GONGS IN PLACE.

REPLACE THE DIAL AND FIX IT IN PLACE.

THEN YOU HAVE TO FIX THE COVER BACK ON THE PHONE, FIRSTLY HOOK THE COVER UNDER THE FRONT OF THE PHONE AS BELOW:-

THEN MAKE SURE THAT THE DIAL STOP CUTOUT IS LINED UP TO ACCOMMODATE THE DIAL STOP.

NOW PUSH THE COVER BACK, IT MAY TAKE A LITTLE GIGGLING TO GET IT TO SLIDE OVER.

THEN POP, IT’LL SUDDENLY GO.

NOW JUST SCREW THE COVER BACK ON.
